Sign Up for Gender Affirming Assessments and Referral Letters: Assessments

Friday July 8, 2022; 10a to 1p EST via synchronous video

Abbie Aldridge, MA LMHC, LPC (they/them/theirs)

3 Continuing Education Credits: NBCC, APEC #7152 and AASECT (CKA D, H)

Cost: $100 (equity pricing available)

This course deconstructs the traditional notion of assessment for gender affirming medical care and moves in a direction of conceptualizing assessment in the spirit of informed consent, client self-determination, and improving client outcomes. Clinicians who serve transgender and gender diverse clients are likely to encounter individuals navigating the process of seeking gender affirming medical interventions. Most new clinicians receive little to no training around this role or process, let alone current information and approaches from a provider of lived experience. This training will bridge previously completed foundational assessment and referral letter training. This will facilitate clinician growth and aims to re-shape the way the clinician conceptualizes and approaches the assessment and referral letter process. This course will also facilitate the clinician’s endeavor to address biases identified during the foundational training.

By the completion of the course, participants will be able to a) identify 3 key differences between assessments for therapy and referral letter, b) formulate their own assessment tool for clinical interview utilizing the informed consent model of care, c) construct their own letter template using their assessment and minimally necessary information, and d) bring forward previously identified biases about assessments and referral letters, and disentangle biases from requirements.

It is highly suggested that learners complete the free online course: Gender Affirming Assessments and Referral Letters: Foundations prior to attending this workshop.

This course will be provided via synchronous format using a HIPAA compliant video platform.
