Hello there!

My name is Jude Powell (he/him), LMSW. I am seeking support in acquiring Ketamine-Assisted Therapy training focused and centered on supporting underserved populations in the Atlanta area. My own interest in Ketamine Assisted Therapy was born out of my own experiences in both undergoing my own treatment and seeing similar success in my clients and peers. Like many, I experienced treatment-resistant depression and other experiences that became a barrier to a fulfilling life. Through ketamine therapy and the support of my beautiful friends (love you Franky), community, and my own therapist (shoutout to Landa), I was able to climb a seemingly gigantic hurdle and move towards living a life worth living (DBT reference for my fellow DBT nerds!). Since then, I have been able to find my passion in my practice as a licensed social worker, explore who I am and my own experiences that shaped me, and radically accept and foster a commitment to changing the changeable. Not to mention the special experience of finding my spiritual awakening in the ancient Appalachian Mountains that I call my home.

Ketamine Assisted Therapy is a modality that is ground-breaking for many individuals such as myself. Ketamine is a medication that helps our brains form new neuropathways (think roads that take us to thoughts, feelings, and behaviors), assisting in things such as learning therapeutic skills, achieving peaceful introspection, coming into our own through radical self-actualization, and healing from many mental struggles. It has been utilized in clinics throughout Atlanta and has seen rapid success in many areas such as depression, anxiety, and eating disorders. While ketamine is helpful for many, it is most beneficial with the collaboration of a licensed mental health therapist. However, there aren’t many trainings and certifications available and accessible to help clinicians such as myself best support clients through this unique experience.

Realizing the importance of education and training in this area, I have sought out training and guidance from many peers, medical and mental health professionals, and organizations. However, I found that a key component of understanding was missing from my research and training. That key component is supporting the backbone of our community – our diverse communities that continue to be marginalized. Supporting underserved folx is paramount to my practice and without digging into that piece, I feel I am unable to support my wonderful clients as well as I would with the training from Alchemy. Alchemy is dedicated to providing accessible and informed care to the folx near and dear to my heart – those who continue to be the foundation of our culture, communities, and history. After searching into Alchemy and talking with their team, I knew that this was where I would find that key missing component in supporting my clients.

Alchemy continues to provide support not only to their clients but their trainees as well. I have been honored to receive a partial scholarship to attend their 7-week training. However, the funds for such training currently lay beyond my abilities. This is why I am reaching out to you all. To attend these trainings, I will need to raise $1100. I ask that we consider those who are unable to access affirming care and our clinicians who must be well-educated and affirmed in the intersection of identities. With this training, I will continue to expand my tools and knowledge to best support our loving community and hold them through tumultuous times.

If you or someone you know are experiencing a hurdle similar to my story, know that you are not alone. There are people like you, those in the midst and those who have overcome. There is a future. I am happy to support those struggling or seeking/exploring Ketamine Assisted Therapy with a sliding scale available for underserved folx.

Thank you for your support,

Jude Powell, LMSW (he/him)
