In Office and Remote Counseling Student Intern

Hi there! My name is Huy (he/him). People also call me SaoRain (Fun fact: “Sao” means “Star” in Vietnamese). I am a counseling intern at Modern Path and a graduate student in Clinical/Counseling Psychology at Clayton State University. As a queer Vietnamese working-class immigrant, I am committed to liberatory practice and community healing. I offer counseling services in tiếng Việt and English.  

I am passionate about supporting adolescents and young adults through various life challenges: from understanding the expansive spectrum of emotions, to navigating the in-betweenness of carrying multiple identities, to grappling with the emotional impacts of systemic oppression and intergenerational trauma.

My approach is person-centered and structurally conscious with an emphasis on strength-based solidarity. I see therapy as a collaborative process in which your lived experiences, values, and wisdom guide our work together. I also recognize that our well-being is shaped not only by our personal experiences but also by the social, cultural, historical, and economic conditions in which we live. By acknowledging and naming the social structures and material suffering that may negatively impact your well-being, I hope you feel seen and empowered to cultivate collective resilience and joy.

Outside the therapy room, you can find me wandering around the vast martial world of the Jianghu (江湖 or Giang hồ kiếm hiệp) in Where Winds Meet, or spamming Fireball (and occasionally, the forbidden art of “Barrelmancy”) with my geek fellows in Baldur’s Gate 3. I also enjoy going to the gym and listening to either cutesy pop music or sociopolitical podcasts from the Global South. Additionally, I am pursuing the Online Master of Science in Analytics (OMSA) at Georgia Institute of Technology. At times, I practice tatreez (تطريز), a traditional form of Palestinian cross-stitch embroidery, to connect myself to the collective knowledge of community, survivance, and resistance.  

If you are seeking long-term, process-oriented therapy, the fee is $75 for a 50-minute individual session. If you are seeking short-term, brief, solution-oriented therapy for 8-16 weeks, the fee is on a pay-what-you-can scale, starting at $25.

Huy is under the clinical supervision of Karen Lill, MA LPC, ATR, ACS, and the Counseling Program of Clayton State University.
